Belize Name Service (BNS)

BNS is BelizeChain's native naming system, providing .bz domains with permanent on-chain ownership — closer to ENS than to traditional DNS rentals.

What BNS Provides

  • Register .bz domains with permanent, transferable ownership
  • Resolve domains to wallet addresses, content, and metadata
  • Host websites on decentralized Pakit DAG storage
  • Trade domains in a built-in marketplace
  • Link external domains (.com, .org, .net) to BelizeChain addresses

Unlike traditional DNS, registered domains do not expire — there are no renewal fees after the initial purchase.

BNS integrates with four pallets: Identity (KYC gating), Economy (DALLA payments), Treasury (fee collection, including marketplace fees), and Pakit (content hosting).

Registration Flow

  1. Connect a wallet with BelizeID KYC — the KYC level determines which domain tiers are available
  2. Search for the desired .bz name
  3. Register by paying the tier price in DALLA; ownership is recorded permanently
  4. Configure resolution records (wallet address, content hash, metadata)
  5. Optional — upload a website to Pakit and point the domain at its content

Domain Records

Each registered domain stores:

  • Owner — the account with transfer rights
  • Registered at — the block height of registration
  • Registration record — price tier and KYC level used
  • Resolution records — wallet address, content, and metadata targets
  • Transfer history — previous owners and transfer count

Transfers are subject to a transfer lock period to prevent rapid speculative trading.

Marketplace

Domains can be listed, sold, and transferred through the on-chain marketplace. A percentage of each sale is collected by the treasury.
