Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is BelizeChain?

BelizeChain is a sovereign Layer-1 blockchain built on Substrate (Polkadot SDK) specifically for the nation of Belize. It provides a dual-currency economy (DALLA + bBZD), 19 Belize-specific runtime pallets, sovereign AI (Nawal), quantum computing integration (Kinich), decentralized storage (Pakit), and a smart contract platform (GEM).

Is BelizeChain a Polkadot parachain or an Ethereum fork?

Neither. It is a standalone sovereign chain built with the same Substrate framework Polkadot uses. It interoperates with other networks through bridge pallets rather than being a parachain.

Where does the network run today?

The live network is the Ceiba testnet. It is not mainnet — contracts, balances, and data on the testnet can be reset.

Currency

What is the difference between DALLA and bBZD?

DALLAbBZD
RoleNative token — fees, staking, governanceStablecoin for payments, payroll, commerce
PegMarket-driven1:1 to the Belize Dollar
Decimals1212
IssuanceAlgorithmic — 2% annual inflationMinted 1:1 against BZD deposits

What is DALLA used for?

Transaction fees, staking to help secure the network, governance voting, and interacting with smart contracts.

Technology

What consensus mechanism does BelizeChain use?

A hybrid of BABE for block production (6-second slots), GRANDPA for finality, and PoUW scoring that rewards validators for federated-learning and quantum contributions. See Consensus.

What can smart contracts be written in?

ink! 5.1.1 — Rust compiled to WebAssembly, executed by pallet-contracts (runtime index 13). The GEM platform provides PSP22, PSP34, and PSP37 contracts plus the BelizeX DEX.

What throughput does the network target?

The design target is ~2,000 TPS with 6-second block times.

How does KYC work?

Three levels: Level 1 for basic participation, Level 2 for verified users and businesses, and Level 3 for institutional access. Identity data is stored as salted hashes, and the Compliance pallet enforces sanctions screening and reporting rules.

Development

How do I run a node locally?

git clone https://github.com/BelizeChain/belizechain.git
cd belizechain && cargo build --release
./target/release/belizechain-node --dev

See Getting Started for the full walkthrough.

Where are the API endpoints?

See the Testnet page for chain identity and the API reference for service ports.

How do I contribute?

All repositories are open source at github.com/BelizeChain. See Contribute.
